Space, time, light are the vital factors in Nicole Ahland's photographs. They show interior spaces, mostly empty of human life, plunged into darkness or radiated by bright light. Sometimes the spaces dissolve, become abstract color fields. Sometimes they look like still lifes, painterly appearing interiors. And it is always light that defines the spaces: some of them are visible only vaguely, others become blurred or remain hidden in the dark. Thereby Nicole Ahland is not concernd with the reproductive aspect of the photography. Far more, her photographs are notations of memories, moods and places. She works analog, creates images of sensual energy and meditative silence with the classical methods of photography.
